Orthopaedic orthodontics is orthodontics which focuses on developing the jaw bones to their correct position before the teeth are straightened. It is best started when children are between 6-8 years old, although younger children and adults can be treated.
You may notice crowding in your child at a young age, or their teeth may protrude or not meet correctly. This is caused by a variety of factors such as thumb sucking, mouth breathing, even the way we feed our babies by lying them on their side.
If the children are treated at a young age we can get nature “back on track”. Children respond very well to treatment and the need for tooth removal is reduced. Most teeth are the correct size so it is not that the teeth are too big but that the jaws are underdeveloped.
Treatment time takes between 6-18months. The braces are removable, but worn full time and only usually removed for eating.
Fixed orthodontic braces normally take 2 years, but the need for complex treatment can be reduced by having earlier orthopaedic orthodontics first. By encouraging the teeth to erupt in their correct positions we can even avoid the need for fixed orthodontics altogether.
I am happy to arrange an appointment to discuss treatment with you. This initial assessment is £25
If you would then like to proceed, a full orthodontic exam, x-rays, photos and impressions are taken. The x-rays are then sent for digital analysis and the cost for this is £240.
Treatment can then proceed with appliances starting at £395
